Medford board recommends deleting outdated vacant-property zoning rule

Medford Community Development Board reelects Doug Carr as chair, criticizes City Council over late Boston Avenue zoning reversal. The board voted 6-0 to recommend deleting an outdated vacant-properties zoning section and unanimously elected Dina Colaghero vice chair and Paige Boldini as its Community Preservation Committee representative, which distributes "more than $2 million every year," Carr said. Members reviewed a draft RFP for a new multi-year zoning consultant and leaned toward prioritizing Tufts institutional zoning this fall.
But much of the meeting centered on the City Council's Sept. 15 vote reversing course to make purpose-built student housing allowed by right, rather than by special permit, in the Boston Avenue corridor. "I trusted the process and the agreement we had reached together with the city council," said board member Paige Boldini, who is drafting a possible joint letter of protest with Chair Doug Carr.
