Medford School Committee holds off on a new elementary reassignment policy amid timeline concerns. Vice Chair Jenny Graham warned that promising families an answer as early as June was unrealistic, saying "no one's going to hear from us in June. They're just not." Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said the district's placement policy "obligates us to make sure that every child who moves into a neighborhood has a seat in that neighborhood school." Member Erika Reinfeld, who sponsored the policy, said it formalizes practices in place since the pandemic, while Assistant Superintendent Dr.
Talbot said roughly 50 inter-district transfer requests arrive each year, about a third tied to sibling placement. The committee separately approved a $295,000 Beth Israel Lahey Health grant and heard that a districtwide strategic-plan survey drew 234 responses. No vote was taken on the reassignment policy itself.
