Medford Historical Commission appoints Ben Johnson to Brooks Estate land trust, presses MassDOT on riverside bike path. Commissioners voted 5-0, with one abstention from Commissioner Doug amid technical trouble, to seat Johnson on the Medford Brooks Estate Land Trust board, replacing outgoing liaison Chair Jen. City planner Amanda Centrella told the board a riverside routing for the proposed South Medford Connector "would be a non-starter with MassDOT," citing a 2018 feasibility study that found millions in added environmental-permitting costs.

Five residents, including Mystic River Watershed Association greenways manager Carl Alexander and WalkMedford's Ellery Klein, pushed for river-facing design tweaks anyway. Separately, resident Cindy Watson said $850,000 in federal funds earmarked in March 2024 for the vacant, 44-unit Hegner Center remains unspent, calling it "very unacceptable," even as the city advances a $5 million "Medford Moving Forward" community center project. The commission also approved its June 2026 minutes 6-0 and adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
