Medford Football Battles Arlington Catholic to Scoreless First Quarter
Medford High School football played a tight, scoreless first quarter against Arlington Catholic on Oct. 23, according to a game broadcast transcript.
MEDFORD --
HIGH SCHOOL -- Medford High School football and Arlington Catholic were deadlocked at 0-0 after one quarter in play described in a broadcast transcript of their Oct. 23 game. Arlington Catholic's offense, led by runner Tyler Venezia and quarterback Ryan Ricciuti, moved the ball early but could not finish drives, with Medford's defense forcing a fourth-down stop on one possession and getting a deflected pass from Julius Toro on another. Arlington Catholic quarterback Ricciuti was also sacked for an eight-yard loss on a blitz the broadcast called a "big play for Medford."
On offense, Medford quarterback Anthony Carrado and running back Lulule Thermidor moved the chains on back-to-back first downs, aided by a personal-foul penalty on Arlington Catholic. Medford also drew an encroachment penalty to extend another drive. Running back DJ Lindor broke off a long punt return that the broadcast described as going "down the sideline, staying in bounds," but the play was nullified by a chop-block penalty on Medford, erasing significant field position. Lindor later caught a pass that carried the ball out to the Arlington Catholic 49-yard line. Medford players wore arm bands for breast cancer awareness month during the contest. The broadcast transcript did not include a final score.
