Medford climate committee advances low-income electric rate cut, preps fall festival. The Climate Equity Committee heard that the city filed its updated municipal aggregation plan with the state Department of Public Utilities after a comment period that closed June 22, a change that will move low-income residents onto Medford's discounted electric rate, a gap set to widen to roughly four cents per kilowatt-hour once National Grid raises rates in August. Climate Planner Brenda reported 248 residents have signed up for Electrify Medford, with 131 coached and 58 actions taken, and touted the city's 17th public EV charger.
Intern Kyla outlined plans for the October 17 Harvest Your Energy Festival at Riverbend Park. The Energy and Environment Committee, led by Will, is petitioning restaurants to drop black plastic containers, citing "pretty awful toxins" that leach into food. The meeting closed with a farewell to Brenda, whose last day is July 31.
