Medford Conservation Commission unanimously approves three DCR environmental permits

MEDFORD — July 21, 2021 — Medford Conservation Commission clears three DCR projects in unanimous remote session. The board voted 4-0 on each of three items July 21, issuing a negative wetlands determination for like-for-like tennis court resurfacing at Dugger Park, an Order of Conditions for a fitness area renovation at Flynn Rink near Quarter Mile Pond (MassDEP file 215-0225), and an Order of Conditions for a connecting pathway from the Route 28 bridge's new Shared Streets and Spaces bike lanes to the Mystic River multi-use path system (file 215-0226). Sandra Libby, planner and project manager with DCR, told commissioners the Flynn Rink redesign produces a net reduction of 730 square feet of impervious surface through a porous poured-in-place rubber fitness pad. Commissioners attached two conditions to the Flynn Rink permit: no herbicide use in removing invasive bittersweet, and all invasive material to be hauled off site.
