Medford Conservation Commission Closes Out Four Rivers Edge Drive Environmental Orders

MEDFORD — October 20, 2021 — Medford Conservation Commission closes four long-open environmental orders at Rivers Edge Drive. The commission voted unanimously Wednesday to issue certificates of compliance for four Department of Environmental Protection files tied to the Rivers Edge Drive development along the Mystic River, some of which had been open since the early 2000s. Ed Hutchinson of Tetra Tech presented aerial photographs showing completed mitigation wetlands, a stabilized culvert extension on Little Creek, and the site of a removed 270-by-40-foot industrial barge that had been embedded in the riverbank for decades. The barge, required to be anchored or removed under Chapter 91, was cut at the mud line and sold for scrap, with a wetland shelf constructed in its place. Separately, a certificate of compliance request from Lan Wang for work at 19 Winford Way was continued for the second consecutive meeting after commissioners said the as-built conditions appeared larger than what was originally approved and the original design drawings have not yet been provided.
