Medford Board of Health votes to close 40 Century Street case

Medford Board of Health presses Brooks Park Apartments owner over a monthslong rat infestation while clearing a separate condemnation case toward resolution. Health Inspector Deanna Earl told the board rodent burrows and droppings have been documented at 208 Main Street since December, citing Yankee Pest Control reports from April and May warning burrows "must be treated soon before they take over the neighborhood." Attorney Shailen Towler, representing the ownership, said his client "has been responsive," but board members warned condemnation — forcing tenant relocation — is the likely next step if fixes aren't made. Separately, inspector Raven reported violations at 40 Century Street have dropped from 12 to three since a July 14 re-inspection, and the board voted 2-0 to close that complaint once remaining repairs, expected by July 25, are confirmed.

The board also voted unanimously to grant sushi restaurant Ebisuya a food-safety variance to acidify sushi rice below a pH of 4.2, and heard that a new monthly Mass General Brigham mobile health van will begin visits August 25.
