Medford bike commission elects Stiver chair, backs river path

Medford's Bicycle Advisory Commission elected Chris Stiver chair and voted to back a letter pushing a river-adjacent route for the South Medford Connector path. Meeting with only five of nine seats filled, members heard that member Noam Riveni had resigned and that outgoing Chair Daniel Nussle-Moehler plans to move out of Medford in August, costing the panel another voting seat. Vice Chair Emily O'Brien urged renewed outreach to the Medford Police Department after a City of Boston employee and cyclist, identified only as Louisa, was killed in a truck crash on Tremont Street in Boston, saying "nobody should ever feel like they can't use the best strategies they have available because they're going to get harassed." Member Jared Powell insisted any support letter for the river path make clear a roadway-adjacent alignment is "a band-aid," not a permanent substitute.

The commission also voted to attend Tufts Community Day on October 4 and Harvest Your Energy on October 17, and authorized Stiver to sign the group on to a Boston Cyclists Union petition for state truck side-guard legislation.
