Medford's Board of Health approved a grease trap variance for hummus maker Just Us Foods. The board voted 2-0, with Dr. Platowitz and Jenny Vitale in favor, to let the company's Medford facility pump its grease trap every six months instead of four.
Founder Colin Daly said the change would save "a couple hundred dollars a year on unnecessary grease trap" service, with the relief limited to current hummus-only production. The board separately heard a BL2 lab permit pitch from Wiser Biosciences CEO Tony Lee ahead of its move to 200 Boston Avenue, and a Mystic Valley Public Health Coalition report showing Medford logged 108 confirmed infectious disease cases, 25 percent of the region's total, since June.
