MEDFORD — The Civic Auditoriums and Convention Center Commission mapped a grant strategy for Chevalier Theatre repairs at its October 14 meeting. Commission member Ken said a Mass Cultural Council Cultural Facilities Fund grant, with $10 million available statewide, is due December 10, while a separate casino community mitigation fund allocation to Medford will roughly double this year after the Legislature restored funding cut to zero the prior two years. Members said bathroom LED lighting was set to begin installation October 15, and David McIntyre has connected with contractor Port Lighting on long-delayed balcony aisle lighting.

The theater's lower-level gym, used by Mystic Valley Boys and Girls Club programs, continues flooding from a high water table, prompting Kevin and Debbie Amaral to scout alternate sites after Friends of the Chevalier's prior $2,000 fix failed to hold. "We don't really know that at the moment," one member said of who approves leftover mitigation fund spending. The commission moved its November meeting to Nov. 18 because Veterans Day closes City Hall on Nov. 11.
